One of the most common drivability complaints we hear from our customers is when their steering wheel is off-center, or their vehicle drifts or pulls to one side of the road.  It can be very alarming for a driver to hold the steering wheel straight, and the car veers off to one side or the other. The problem may be the wheels are out of alignment. Fortunately, this is a common problem with a pretty simple fix.

We created the JE Performance Essential® Wheel Alignment Service, just for you.

What is a wheel alignment, and how is it different than a wheel balance?

Simply put, a wheel alignment is when a technician uses a machine to adjusts the angle of the wheels relative to the car’s axle and the ground. A wheel alignment problem is usually visible through severe wear on the inside or outside of the tire tread, or worn steering or suspension components.

A wheel balance ensures each individual wheel is balanced around its rim. Small weights are added to the wheel rim to make sure it rotates smoothly. A wheel that’s out of balance will show up as shaking or vibrating through the steering wheel at highway speeds.

These services address two different aspects of the car. Addressing one of them won’t fix the other.

New tires are balanced when they’re mounted to your wheels, and then the technician aligns the wheels after the new tires are installed.

How much does a wheel alignment cost?

Our Wheel Alignment Service starts at $149.00. This includes 1 hour of labor to perform the necessary adjustments to complete an alignment on a stock vehicle, that requires no additional parts, or part removal to accomplish.

Many of the vehicles we work on have aftermarket adjustment parts, or have been lowered and may require additional labor or parts to accomplish the alignment correctly. We can build an estimate for you based on your vehicle after performing an alignment check service any time.

How do I know if I need a wheel alignment?

If you are not experiencing any issues: most vehicle manufacturers recommend having your vehicle’s alignment checked at least 2 times a a year depending on driving habits.

When issues are present: when you experience your vehicle pulling to the left or right, or the steering wheel is off-center when driving straight, your car is telling you it needs a wheel alignment. You may also feel vibrations in the steering wheel. Also, check the tread on the front and rear tires. If the tread is wearing unevenly on tires on the same axle, it’s another sign you need a wheel alignment.

It’s also usually recommended to have a wheel alignment when you get new tires. The wheels should be aligned properly to avoid extra wear on your new tires.  You’ll cut down on the chance of shortening the life of your new tires due to any adverse alignment issues.
